Share Joy International is sponsoring a collection drive to collect clothes and toiletries to ship down to those in need in Panama City Beach, Florida after Hurricane Michael hit the area in October.

Items that residents are being asked to donate include: New socks, underwears, boxers, and sweatshirts. Also needed are diapers, pull ups, toothbrushes, and bars of soap.

The UPS Store in Ridgefield is taking all donation and will be shipping out items to the Boys and Girls Club of Panama City.

All boxes should be mailed out no later than Monday, Dec. 3. The UPS Store is giving a 5% discount on shipping as well as half-priced boxes.

Boxes should be mailed to the following address: Boys and Girls Club of Panama City, 16200 Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach, Fla., 32413.

Raising money

Jonathan Chase of Share Joy International (SJI) is planning to drive down to Panama City Beach on Wednesday, Dec. 5, with the money raised locally. He will use that money to purchase cleaning supplies, food, clothes, pet food, and whatever else is needed and then deliver it to the tent cities that have been set up in the area. Chase also plans to drop off items at dear by churches and other local donation centers.

Chase said he would like to raise $5,000. Residents who would like to donate should send checks to Jonathan Chase and make them out to Share Joy International. Checks should be mailed to the following address: 58 Crescent Drive, Ridgefield, CT, 06877.

“If you have some very, very gently used sweatshirts for kids and adults that you have outgrown that is what is needed most as it is getting cold in Florida and many have lost everything,” Chase said. “Have your children include a little card or note in the donation box you are shipping out. It will give someone hope and bring cheer to the families displaced by the storm…

“I will be sending photos back to you all and Facebook too,” Chase added. “Please friend me on Facebook and follow my journey.”
