The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously July 25 to reappoint Richard “Dick” Aarons as the town’s director of emergency services.

Aarons was first promoted to the role in July of last year after serving as the agency’s deputy for seven years prior.

“He does an incredible job for us,” First Selectman Rudy Marconi said, during the Board of Selectmen meeting. “I want to thank you for all that you do for the town in dark skies and blue.”

Aarons said his office is “preparing for hurricane season right now.”

“Anyone opposed?” Marconi asked of the mostly-vacant room.

“You, sir, in the back? — I’m just kidding,” he said with a chuckle.

There was a moment of microphone feedback as the selectmen voted to reappoint Aarons. “Yeah, the man in the box,” Aarons said, with a smile.
