A section of North Salem Road was closed Sunday, March 18, around 5:30 p.m. after a Volkswagen sedan struck a utility pole at the intersection of Farrar Lane.

Fire Chief Jerry Myers told The Press the car suffered severe front-end damage in the crash, which severed the pole.

Myers said the driver, who was taken to Danbury Hospital with injuries, did not need to be extracted from the car. No other cars were involved in the accident, Myers said.

Ridgefield police closed the section of North Salem Road near Farrar Lane, detouring northbound traffic around the crash via Tackora Trail, and southbound traffic through Barlow Mountain Road.

Damage to the pole had been completely repaired and traffic opened both ways by Sunday night, police dispatchers told The Press.
