Ridgefielder Rachel Cooper, an undergraduate at Arizona State University, has joined the Summer Theatre of New Canaan as a technical theater intern.
Cooper is focused on carpentry and audio for all the Summer Theatre’s productions, including “Pippin” with music and lyrics by Ridgefielder Stephen Schwartz.
That show, which features a professional cast of Broadway and regional actors, begins July 5.
The theater, which will celebrate 16 years this summer, will also produce The Light Princess beginning June 22 and Tresaure Island beginning July 13.
As part of its summer program, the Summer Theatre offers professional internships for career-track theater arts college students and recent graduates practical theater experience. This summer, 22 interns studying at colleges across the country were selected from over 300 applicants. They will be working side-by-side with professionals in all theatrical specialties, spanning acting, directing, education, stage management, costume design, lighting, sound, carpentry, technical direction and theatrical administration.
