Ridgefield police have confirmed that a car was stolen from the driveway of a Poplar Road home overnight between Sunday, Aug. 19, and Monday, Aug. 20.

The incident is the ninth case of a stolen car in Ridgefield this year, according to Capt. Jeff Kreitz.

A report said the car, a 2016 Nissan Rogue, was unlocked and that a car key was left inside.

“There were other unlocked vehicles in the area that were rummaged through that evening,” Kreitz told The Press.

The car theft was first reported to police at 2:55 p.m. on Aug. 20.

Kreitz confirmed that the theft fit the pattern of a group of car thieves that police believe are based out of Waterbury.
