Ridgefield music students win spots in competitive festival

Hard work paid off for a select group of Ridgefield High School music students this month. They participated in the Western Region High School Festival hosted by the Connecticut Music Educators Association.

The annual festival creates four ensembles that exist for just two days. Students who passed a November audition got to work with renowned conductors of band, choir, orchestra, and jazz, and after intense rehearsals on a Friday and Saturday, performed in concert the evening of Jan. 13.

More than three dozen students from Ridgefield auditioned for this year’s festival and 14 were given the nod by judges looking for the best brass, woodwind, percussion, jazz, strings, and vocal talent.

The students are Lauren Tsai, Julia Lin, Stephanie Yee, Elisa Kovacs, Ryan Pratt, Helen Ni, Kenneth Choi, Marshall MacDonald, Raymond Sun, Dmitri Volcov, Hunter Sims, Wujin Kim, Miles Stoddardt, and Ian Koh.
