Ridgefield Old Timers to present awards Oct. 13
Tickets are now on sale for the Ridgefield Old Timers Association Awards Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Mary’s Church Hall, beginning with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. and a dinner by Prime Burger at 7. Tickets can be purchased through the ROTA website, ridgefieldoldtimers.org, for $60 a person. Included in the evening will be a silent auction, music and meeting with old friends.
Awardees for the evening will be: Jack Herr, posthumous, (more than 50 years of bringing military bands to Ridgefield several times a year); Barbara Manners, service (more than 30 years of leadership and volunteerism, CHIRP and Acoustic Celebration concerts, ABC House, Dog Park, Ridgefield Playhouse and town government); Gene Healy; special award (coached more than 400 children in Ridgefield for more than 40 years in both baseball and basketball); Bill Monti, educator (greatly loved teacher and administrator at Ridgebury Elementary School, Ridgefield High School and ERMS).
In the athletics category are Mia Heissen (class of 1985), outstanding athlete in soccer, girls hockey with Connecticut Stars, skiing, and softball; Lena Onyshkewch (class of 1987), all-star soccer player and tennis player who went on to play soccer at Cortland State.
Male athletes being honored are Stanley Englehardt (class of 1968) for achievement in basketball and baseball, finally playing basketball at the University of Pennsylvania, Pat Enright (class of 1985) played varsity baseball and basketball and went on to play at Villanova. Other male athletes to be honored are Mike Enright, Mike Bossidy and Bob Phalen.
