Floridalma Ambrosio considers every resident under her care part of her extended family, working tirelessly to ensure they have the best possible quality of life. The resident care associate for memory care at Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings in Ridgefield, recently was recognized for the quality of her care from among thousands of staff working at assisted living communities throughout the state by the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA), which annually honors 10 associates who go above and beyond to serve. Ambrosio was honored with the 2018 Outstanding Resident Service Award at CALA’s recent awards event held at Water’s Edge Resort & Spa in Westbrook, Conn.
Throughout her tenure at the community, Ambrosio, who lives in Danbury, Conn., has served hundreds of residents with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. One resident, who previously had lived on her own with a private caregiver, had not left her home in several years. After moving to Ridgefield Crossings, she didn’t leave her apartment for months. Ambrosio worked with her one-on-one, every day to build a relationship. The resident now eats every meal in the dining room, attends daily activities and has a quality of life that has far exceeded expectations.
