Ridgefield Crossing’s Ambrosio receives Outstanding Resident Service Award
Floridalma Ambrosio considers every resident under her care part of her extended family, working tirelessly to ensure they have the best possible quality of life. The resident care associate for memory care at Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings in Ridgefield, recently was recognized for the quality of her care from among thousands of staff working at assisted living communities throughout the state by the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA), which annually honors 10 associates who go above and beyond to serve. Ambrosio was honored with the 2018 Outstanding Resident Service Award at CALA’s recent awards event held at Water’s Edge Resort & Spa in Westbrook, Conn.
Throughout her tenure at the community, Ambrosio, who lives in Danbury, Conn., has served hundreds of residents with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. One resident, who previously had lived on her own with a private caregiver, had not left her home in several years. After moving to Ridgefield Crossings, she didn’t leave her apartment for months. Ambrosio worked with her one-on-one, every day to build a relationship. The resident now eats every meal in the dining room, attends daily activities and has a quality of life that has far exceeded expectations.
Ambrosio learned a little Japanese to communicate with another resident who spoke little English, and that led to daily joking and dancing. When he was hospitalized recently, Ambrosio spent time with him at the hospital, often on her own time, bathing and dressing him, keeping his spirits up and even coaching the hospital staff on how to work with him. Thanks in large part to Ambrosio’s efforts, he was able to come right back to his home at Ridgefield Crossings instead of spending time in a rehabilitation facility. And he was dancing again in no time.
“Flo consistently goes above and beyond her usual duties,” says Terri Ramsey, memory care director at Ridgefield Crossings. “She sees the potential in each resident, investing a tremendous amount of time and attention to detail to ensure they have the absolute best quality of life. We are so blessed to have her as part of our dream team!”
The memory care program at Ridgefield Crossings features Benchmark’s award-winning Mind & Memory approach for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. This specially designed program cares for the whole person, providing the activities, engagement and security needed to ensure residents feel comfortable and successful every day.
