The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved an amendment to the town’s zoning regulations at its Tuesday, Jan. 2, meeting that would allow the zoning department to issue zoning compliance certificates for properties on the market.

“It’s just becoming very hard to sell real estate,” said Planning and Zoning Director Richard Baldelli, in explaining the amendment, which was proposed by the commission. “One thing we think will help with this is that when we issue a zoning permit, or a zoning compliance, it ensures to the best of our knowledge that it’s in compliance with the zoning regulations.”

That gives lenders and home buyers a greater assurance that there are no hidden zoning issues that will crop up with a home purchase, Baldelli explained.
