Ridgefield physicist Rich Fabbri will give a talk on intuition at the Ridgefield Library, 472 Main Street, on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m.

Fabbri will share an analysis of intuition from nature that can predict outcomes in diverse areas such as sports (predicting the baseball World Series), people (finding and sustaining new hires in human resources) and investing (evaluating hedge funds). Fabbri will discuss how intuition can be acquired from real data, just as humans unconsciously intuit by learning from many data sources. He will show how intuition trumps statistics by people’s holistic sensory knowledge of the world which, due to great complexity, is unconsciously perceived.
