Mother’s Day luncheon raises $61,000 for children with special needs

On May 11, 200 women gathered at the newly renovated Le Chateau to celebrate Mother’s Day and raise funds for the Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation. This Ridgefield based foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs and their families. The event was a huge success raising $61,000!

Back where the very first luncheon was held 14 years ago the event started with pink champagne and “shopping” at the over 60 items in the silent auction. After being welcomed by foundation co- founder and President, Cathy Tango-Dykes the luncheon’s guest speaker Iowa Cipollone spoke to the crowd. Iowa’s son was one of the Foundation’s first recipients and she spoke from her heart as she described the journey she and her family have been taking the last 14 years while raising him. While certainly an “uphill” battle at times she feels very fortunate to have some incredible people help them like the Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation.

Our special project this year was to raise funds for Eva Grace’s home modification. Eva Grace is a seven year old from West Haven with SMA Type 1. Described by her mother as a “diva” she requires 24-hour care as she uses a ventilator to breathe and feeding tube to eat among other interventions. She has outgrown her current bedroom as she continues to grow in size and her need for more medical equipment. We are delighted to report that we raised $15,000 of the $25,000 targeted to complete this renovation!

The afternoon was a huge success in many ways and an event like this would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our board and the many businesses that support the auction and sponsor the luncheon.
