Ridgefield drivers heading north on Main Street noticed two things Tuesday morning: long lines of traffic and a large-sized truck drilling a hole into the roadway.

State workers began work around 8 a.m Tuesday, April 10, near the corner of Main Street and Governor Street — in front of Fairfield County Bank and Wells Fargo — creating one-lane traffic.

The Department of Transportation workers on site said they were drilling down to about 17 feet to check the subsurface of the roadway in preparation for the intersection work.
