Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center received a grant from the Ridgefield Thrift Shop to fund the museum’s upcoming Family Day celebrating the centennial of the ending of World War I. Family Day will be on Sunday, June 17, and feature period re-enactors, including World War I soldiers, and a restored World War I ambulance. In attendance will be the Tavern’s residents at the time, Cass and Julia Gilbert, who will host a send-off for departing doughboys, as they did during the war. There will be a life-size model of a trench, museum tours, and period music. The event will include displays of World War I posters and an exhibit of Ridgefield’s involvement in the war by the Ridgefield Historical Society, kids activities by the Historical Society and Ridgefield Library, and an information booth by the American Legion.
Family Day is free.
