Jeep stolen from Pamby Motors found abandoned on Route 7
Ridgefield police are investigating the theft of a new Jeep Renegade that was stolen from Pamby Motors Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram on Danbury Road (Route 7) at 1:44 a.m. Sunday, May 6, and found abandoned "a short distance" from the dealership.
According to a report, an unknown number of suspects broke showroom windows at the business and took the Jeep’s key fob from inside the dealership.
Police said the vehicle was driven south on Route 7, before it was abandoned in the southbound lane.
"Suspect(s) traveled a short distance before abandoning the Jeep in Route 7 and fleeing the area," Police Capt. Jeff Kreitz said.
"It is unclear at this time why the vehicle was abandoned."
Kreitz said officers discovered the unoccupied car a short distance from the Pamby Motors dealership after receiving a report of an abandoned motor vehicle on the side of the roadway.
“Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Ridgefield Police Department's Detective Division at 203-431-2794 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 203-431-2345,” Kreitz said.
Police did not say whether they suspect the theft is related to a group of Waterbury-based car thieves who have targeted Ridgefield over the past 17 months.
