The Ridgefield Library will host its annual Hard Drive Smash Saturday, Feb. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Residents may bring old hard drives, PCs, Macs, and laptops to the program room on the lower level of the library, located at 472 Main Street. Computer parts will then be safely recycled by Newtech Recycling Inc.

In addition to smashing hard drives, the library will dismantle and recycle other home electronics and appliances, such as stereo and TV components — almost anything except kitchen equipment, large printers and any device containing mercury.

A $20-per-item fee will be charged, with proceeds supporting RidgeCon 2018, the library’s annual pop culture celebration in August.

The library’s teen advisory group will smash the electronics.
