Chris Cozens was named the 2018 Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield, selected from among 14 local youth, at the Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield fourth annual leadership dinner and ceremony in Danbury earlier this month.

The dinner honored the club’s character and leadership program members in Gem Club (for fifth grade members), Torch Club (for middle school members) and Keystone Club (for high school members), and individually recognized members for their commitment and achievements.

Cozens, a Ridgefield High School senior, will receive the Ralph B. Crouchley $1,500 college scholarship.

Cozens has been attending the club since first grade. He’s totaled more than 1,000 volunteer hours, is a two-time recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award, and has previously won the Youth Volunteer of the Year.

“Obstacles have been a recurring part of my life and the club has helped me overcome them. The club showed me new horizons that I never thought would be available to me. The club has given me a new family that cared about my well-being,” said Cozens.

In April, he will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the Connecticut Youth of the Year title and a $2,500 college scholarship.
