Chekhov Theatre Festival to host spring fundraiser at Theater Barn
The Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival will host its spring fundraiser performance at the Ridgefield Theater Barn on Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m.
The event will feature a staged reading of Christopher Durang’s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play which was inspired by the works of Anton Chekhov. The evening will include the performance, an assortment of light refreshments and one free drink.
The Ridgefield Theater Barn will now act as the permanent home for the Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival. This year's festival celebrates its eleventh year and show dates will be Oct. 18-19. Inspired by the innovative, imagination-based technique of Michael Chekhov, the festival is dedicated to discovering and welcoming original artists, presenting their creative work and offering sanctuary to experiment and explore new theatre in Ridgefield which has become a thriving theatrical hub. A nephew of famed playwright Anton Chekhov, Michael Chekhov (1891-1955) achieved fame in his own right as an actor/director/author who relocated his dramatic arts school from England to Ridgefield in 1939 in a barn off North Salem Road.
The Ridgefield Theater Barn is located at 37 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield. Tickets for the event are $40 and can be purchased at ridgefieldtheatrebarn.org.
