Chefs Bernard and Sarah Bouissou help raise money for women’s education

When Bernard and Sarah Bouissou moved to Ridgefield in 2000, they brought them a passion for community service.

Cooking in front of a crowd of 45 people at the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association May 22, Sarah recalled how she used to teach people how to make meals before opening up Sarah’s Wine Bar and Bernard’s Restaurant.

The RVNA luncheon served as a bridge for those two passions, as Sarah and husband demonstrated to the audience a gourmet menu while raising money for the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), an organization that helps forward women's education.

PEO has more than 8,500 chapters located in the United States and Canada, with 229,000-plus members.

More than $321.4 million has been given to PEO since its foundation in 1869 at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Donations have come in the form of educational grants, loans, awards, and other special projects. They have benefited more than 105,000 women internationally.

The meals that were prepared at the RVNA included a spiced pork tenderloin with pineapple chutney along with a mixed-grain salad and some grilled vegetables. For dessert, chefs Sarah and Bernard prepared a chocolate pot de crème.

There will be another PEO fundraiser on Sept. 22 at the Danbury Elks Lodge, located at 36 Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury.
