Ridgefield and bocce are in the record books — together.
Eight Ridgefield locals, also known as The Ridgefield 8, broke the Guinness World Record title for the longest marathon playing bocce team this weekend.
The Ridgefield 8 topped the previous record of 32 hours and four minutes.
The charity bocce marathon game started Friday, June 21, and concluded Saturday, June 22. The team played at the bocce court at Ancona’s Wines & Liquors parking lot and broke the record shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.
The competition was for a cause, as the Ridgefield 8 raised money to support two important local charities: The Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield and Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR).
"Thank you to your community and wonderful supporters — over $10,000 raised for these two wonderful charities," the Ridgefield 8 wrote on Facebook shortly after breaking the record.

The Ridgefield 8 are Mark Blandford, Bill Diamond, Chris Forsyth, Brendan Kenny, Jeff Levi, Kyle Morehouse, Kristian Ording and Mike Rosella.
