A walk down memory lane: 50 seniors head to summer camp in Ashford
Fifty Ridgefield seniors will be taking a walk down memory lane this summer when they head to camp as part of Ridgefield’s Senior Positive Initiative Forum (SPIF).
The senior forum was organized to coordinate the organizations in Ridgefield that work with older residents. This year, SPIF received a generous grant from the Leir Retreat Center to cover the cost of a getaway experience for up to 50 Ridgefield seniors, who would not otherwise have the opportunity to treat themselves to a vacation.
The registration period is currently open and interested seniors age 65+ can apply at Founders Hall.
The retreat will be held this Aug. 12-16.
Interested residents are encouraged to register by June 7 when a lottery will be used to select participants if needed. All final paperwork is due by June 17 for those who attend. Residents must participate in any one of five state programs in order to qualify including: Energy Assistance, Renters Rebate. SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare Savings Program (MSP). SPIF is proud to offer this at no cost to participants including bus transportation to and from the retreat center.
There is a refundable $20 deposit. Ridgefield last hosted this summer retreat opportunity in 2008.
The retreat center is located on a 52-acre private lake surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods in beautiful Ashford, Conn.
The lodge at CONNRI is owned and operated by the Salvation Army and is a full-service conference center and year-round facility with shared rooms and delicious meals available to all attendees. There are also a variety of activities, games and the nearby lake for fun activities or to sit in the sun and read a good book. From shuffleboard to outdoor sports, hiking, boating, fishing, and a campfire site —all are found at Camp CONNRI.
