What are your hopes and dreams? Ridgefield students discuss walkout (VIDEO)

Walk up, not out.

That was the sentiment shared by Ridgefield High School junior Dackerie Bowes Wednesday morning at a school-wide walkout that memorialized the 17 students and staff members killed in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

“Everyone was able to put their beliefs and opinions aside to really come together as a group, and we’re talking about walking out, but kids are also starting to talk about walking up — you know, walking up to that kid who isn’t sitting with anyone, or walking up to that kid who is a little different from the others,” Bowes said, who hopes such a shift in attitude could prevent another violent tragedy from striking.

Under icy blue skies, some 1,600 high school students walked out of their advisory classes at 10:02 a.m. March 14 — a month after the shooting — and completed a “lap of love” around the school field.
