Schools approve PTA gift for ‘eroding’ risers at Scotland

The Board of Education approved a $6,000 gift from the Scotland Parent-Teacher Association to replace the school’s choral risers on Monday, April 23.

A representative from the Scotland PTA told the board that when the risers were cleaned recently, “bolts came flying out.” The vote came after a four-hour meeting, in which the board also voted to approve some $500,000 in reductions to the 2018-19 school budget — some of which was taken from the facilities.

“We’ve talked at this table about the erosion of our schools,” said Vice Chairman Doug Silver.

“Yeah, when the bolts go flying out,” said Chairwoman Fran Walton.

The board voted to accept the donation “with gratitude and appreciation.”
