Helen Sniffin, 96, taught kindergarten for 41 years.

Helen E. (Knapp) Sniffin, 96, wife of the late Donald W. Sniffin, died peacefully at the Belmont Village Senior Living Community in San Diego, California on March 3, 2013.

Helen was born in Kingston, New York on July 18, 1916, daughter of the late Arthur Knapp and Grace Bush Knapp. She was a lifetime resident of the Danbury/New Fairfield area until the passing of her beloved husband in October of 2003. In 2004 she relocated to San Diego, California.

Helen was a graduate of Danbury High School and Danbury Teachers’ College and retired from teaching after 41 years as a kindergarten teacher in Ridgefield, Connecticut. She never kept count of her students, but it is estimated that she guided approximately 3,000 kindergarteners on their way to becoming successful students and responsible citizens.

Helen and her husband were long-time members of the Danbury Yacht Club. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church, the Danbury Travelers’ Club, and the Connecticut Retired Teachers Association.

Helen is survived by two sons, Allan D. Sniffin and his wife Deanne, formerly of Brookfield and currently residing in The Villages, Florida and Gary N. Sniffin and his wife Sharon, of Santee, California, as well as by four grandchildren, eight great-grand children, and two nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother Harold “Bud” Knapp and his wife Dorothy.

Private graveside funeral services will be held in the future, at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
