GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in South Carolina say a suspect opened fire on officers and led them on a brief chase before being arrested.

The Greenville News reports police, county sheriff's deputies and South Carolina Highway Patrol officers responded to reports Tuesday morning that a man was firing shots near a shoe store in Greenville.

Police spokesman Donnie Porter says the suspect shot at law enforcement as he was driving away. A brief chase came to an end when a sheriff's deputy struck the suspect's vehicle.

Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jimmy Bolt said three deputies received minor injuries.

Officers broke the window of the suspect's vehicle to remove him from the car. He was arrested and taken to the hospital.

The newspaper report doesn't identify the suspect or say if he was charged.
