NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — A man in western New York was arrested after he tried to fight a state trooper and an explosive device was found in his car, according to state police.

Jose M. Gandia, of Niagara Falls, was taken into custody Wednesday, according to state police. It is unclear if he will face charges.

State police troopers responded to reports of a man menacing others with a shotgun at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

They followed the car Gandia was driving in Hanover. Before they turned on their emergency lights, Gandia got out of his car and tried to fight a trooper, authorities said.

Gandia was arrested, and police reportedly found several weapons and a “small functioning explosive device" in his car.

Authorities also sent an unmanned aerial system into Gandia's home which identified “possible” explosives, law enforcement officials said.

It was unclear if Gandia had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
