The Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield, at 41 Governor Street, kicked off its annual campaign, “The Campaign for Youth,” at the Keystone Awards Ceremony on March 27. The campaign will raise funds for the club’s after-school programs and services for youth, ages 6 to 18, living in Ridgefield. Scheduled to run through June 30, the campaign seeks donations primarily from individuals. Serving as the campaign’s co-chairs are club board members and Ridgefield residents Karl Steidl and Don Ciota. The campaign’s goal this year is to raise $125,000. “We are proud to announce that to date, our campaign has raised more than $20,000 as a result of some early gifts and 100% participation of our board members,” Mr. Steidl said. “All we need now is the rest of our community to show their support, and we will be able to reach, maybe even exceed, our goal.” “Last year we experienced close to a 10% increase in both after-school and summer camp attendance,” siad Mr. Ciota. “Our high school leadership program, the Keystone Club, won four national awards, including Keystone Club of the year. We are very proud of our accomplishments, but there are still many more youth in our community that need the kind of positive influence and guidance the club provides. We want to reach out to these youth and their families.” Funds raised will help sustain the low fee structure for high-quality after-school programs, including the Power Hour homework help program, computer skills training, career exploration, arts and crafts, fitness and sports, and character and leadership programs such as SMART Moves, Torch Club and Keystone Club. Funds will also help sponsor kids to attend summer camp. “Many Ridgefield residents don’t realize that the Boys & Girls Club is a privately funded nonprofit and that nearly a third of the annual budget is raised through the annual campaign and fund-raisers like the Turkey Trot,” said Mr. Steidl. “In May we will host our golf tournament, which is another important fund-raiser for the club. We hope that the community can see the value of their investment in the club and support our campaign.” To make a donation or to volunteer, call 203-438-8821 or visit bgcridgefield.org.
