Joe Shapiro
ContributedThe Ridgefield Board of Finance approved Joe Shapiro to fill a vacancy created by Karen Ogden’s resignation. Shapiro was endorsed to fill the vacancy by the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee.
A 41-year Ridgefield resident, Shapiro received a law degree from New York University School of Law and began his career in corporate law at a leading New York firm.
At watch manufacturer Timex Corporation and later industrial minerals company Unimin, Mr. Shapiro held increasingly diverse roles. By 2015, when Shapiro retired as Unimin’s executive vice president and chief operating office, he had held several positions that prepare him for the Board of Finance.
Shapiro has served Ridgefield in multiple volunteer positions, including as secretary of Ridgefield’s most recent Charter Revision Committee.
“Shapiro brings an outstanding blend of relevant personal and professional qualifications, commitment to service, and a disposition to listen, engage and work with colleagues as part of a constructive consensus-building process,” DTC Chairperson Carina Drake said. With grown children and grandchildren now also living in town, he has first-hand experience with the varying needs of Ridgefield residents of all ages. He is acutely aware of the Board of Finance responsibility to keep the mill rate of the Town’s property taxes at a reasonable level and keep annual property tax increases modest.”
