Ridgefield’s Kohl’s location in Copps Hill Plaza to close next month

Kohl’s will close Jan. 16. It opened in Ridgefield in April 2000.

The signage has residents buzzing about what will become of the vacant storefront. Hearst Connecticut Media has reported that HomeGoods was working with Regency Centers, the owners of Copps Hill Plaza, to lease a quarter of the space now occupied by Kohl’s.

Dino DeLaurentis, a project manager for Regency Centers, said once Kohl’s vacates the location, construction on HomeGoods will begin. The retail chain sells a wide variety of household products, from couches and chairs to beds and bedding, kitchen and bath supplies, rugs and lighting.

The construction includes a new entrance for HomeGoods, which will reflect the tower-gate style of Kohl’s entrance. A new loading dock will also be added in the rear of the building.

The store will occupy 24,173 square feet of Kohl’s current footprint closest to Stop & Shop, leaving 65,400 square feet for grabs, according to Regency Centers’ website.

While DeLaurentiis didn’t have a definitive answer for what will take Kohl’s place, he said there is “good, solid interest” from a “number of proposed tenants.” He said Regency Centers is committed to providing a “good tenant mix” within the shopping center to benefit the community.

“Everyone’s been very receptive to HomeGoods coming in, and I think they’ll be a great tenant,” he said. “We will have a good tenant mix for the Kohl’s space, and leasing is working very hard to make that happen.”
