A Ridgefield business received a counterfeit $20 bill around 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16.

Ridgefield police reported the fake money on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

“It appears that the bill came from a store in Norwalk,” the post read. “The incident is under investigation.”

In late June, Ridgefield police arrested a 18-year-old New York woman for forgery in the first degree for attempting to pay for gas with a fake $20 at Valero.

The department did not say whether these incidents were related.

On their Facebook page, Ridgefield police urged residents to visit www.uscurrency.gov if they have questions regarding counterfeit.

The department also encouraged business owners to call 203-438-6531 if they receive a bill they think is counterfeit.
