RIDGEFIELD — Community members flooded Main Street on Monday morning to honor those who died serving the country.
More than 1,800 people from over 60 organizations were expected to participate in the annual Memorial Day parade, which has been organized by the Ridgefield’s American Legion Post 78 since 1921. The parades in 2020 and 2021 were canceled due to COVID-19.
The events started with a ceremony at the Ridgefield Veterans Monument in front of Jesse Lee Church at 11:15 a.m., with the parade kicking off at 11:30 a.m. Marchers headed down Main Street to Ballard Park. The day included speeches, a military plane flyover, and patriotic music and songs.
