RIDGEFIELD — As part of the $4 million project to improve Main Street, a section of the street between Governor and Catoonah will be closed from Aug. 26 to Aug. 28, according to a release sent Tuesday from the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce.

Work on the project, which is progressing without delay, continues along the length of Main Street and at the intersection near CVS. The project is anticipated to be completed by Thanksgiving, the release said.

The section of the road between Governor and Catoonah streets will need to be closed, due to the heavy equipment present on site.

Construction crews will be working nearly 24 hours a day — from early Friday morning, Aug. 26, through late Sunday, Aug. 28. Part of the roadway will be rebuilt and new asphalt poured.

As a result, traffic will need to be rerouted. There will be electronic billboards and detour signs to help guide traffic. A limited number of vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit at the intersection of Catoonah and Main Street. Parking spaces will also be available in this area. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian traffic during this period.

“This closure is critical for the Main Street Project to be completed in a timely manner. Once finished, the benefits will include a smoother flow of traffic, improved safety at crosswalks, and enhanced landscaping” said First Selectman Rudy Marconi in the release. “Please continue to support our local merchants.”
