Gov. Ned Lamont has been appointed co-chair of the National Governors Association’s Pandemic and Disaster Response Task Force to help states manage the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This task force is one of three created by the NGA to coordinate and lead bipartisan state and regional efforts in response to the pandemic, a Wednesday press release from Lamont’s office said.

Lamont’s co-chair on the Pandemic and Disaster Response Task Force is Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee. The duo will focus on issues relating to the Federal Emergency Management Administration, National Guard, cyber security and health care. They will also focus on COVID-19 testing, vaccines, supply chain and personal protective equipment.

In a statement, Lamont thanked NGA Chairman Andrew Cuomo for the appointment.

“Our state was hit early and hit hard by this pandemic. Throughout this unprecedented crisis, I have worked with my neighboring governors to ensure our responses were coordinated,” Lamont said. “Our state has provided leadership and ingenuity, as we know our approach saved lives.”

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear will co-chair the Economic Recovery and Revitalization Task Force. They’ll focus on issues of infrastructure, state stabilization, energy, environment, land management and taxes.

U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Albert Bryan and Missouri Gov. Mike Parson will co-chair the Community Renewal Task Force. They will focus on issues related to the workforce, nutrition, education, criminal justice and agriculture.

“I am eager to exchange ideas and best practices with my fellow governors,” Lamont said.

The three new task forces will work with NGA’s Executive Committee, a nine-member board that oversees the association’s operations.

The National Governors Association was founded in 1908 to serve as the voice of the leaders of 55 states, territories and commonwealths. Through the NGA, the nation’s governors work on priority issues at the state, national and global level.
