Free tax help from AARP
Important: This year the tax sessions will be held at the Ridgefield Library, 472 Main Street, in the Dayton room. The sessions are scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. each Thursday beginning on Thursday, Feb. 5.
The Tax-Aide program is sponsored and supported by AARP. The volunteers will complete the federal and state income tax returns or answer tax questions for area taxpayers. The tax assistance is free. All information and/or discussions are confidential. This service is available to all taxpayers in the Ridgefield area having low to moderate income.
Taxpayers can have their tax returns submitted electronically by e-file for quicker filing and refunds. The taxpayer must be available at the session to sign forms, and if married, both husband and wife must be present.
Tax assistance sessions are scheduled for every Thursday through April 9. Each taxpayer assistance session is by appointment only. To call for an appointment, or for additional information, call 203-438-2755.
Taxpayers coming to their scheduled assistance sessions should bring a copy of last year’s tax returns and must bring all of the tax documents received for the 2014 tax year. These include W-2 and W-2G forms, all 1099 forms, SSA-1099 forms and documents detailing the original cost of assets sold during 2014 as well as those supporting any deductions to be claimed. They should also have proof of their Social Security number(s) and personal identification documentation with them and Social Security documentation for all dependents they are claiming.
