The Connecticut Department of Social Services announced last week that on Sept. 16, the over 200,00 families receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as food stamps) benefits would be getting emergency funds. The department delivered $33.9 million in emergency SNAP funds.
The emergency funding was authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and added a minimum of $95 in extra food aid to all families and individuals currently enrolled in the program. This new emergency allotment raises the total amount of emergency funding by the state of Connecticut to $855 million since the start of the pandemic, with this being the 29th month the emergency funds have been allotted. Aug. 18 was the last date SNAP households received emergency funds.
