(Ad) Even before Nature’s Temptations had a presence in Ridgefield, residents would cross state lines to patronize the popular health food store. Owner, Jeff Konchalski had expertise worth traveling for, but he eventually moved the business to its current location on Prospect Street.
Since 1997, Nature’s Temptations has provided high-quality organic foods and natural products to health-conscious customers. Its mission is to promote health and wellness in the local community by educating people about where their food comes from, the right supplements to support their respective diets, and the importance nutrition plays in bettering one’s overall health.
“Because of my knowledge of supplements and eating correctly, I began to get a following of Ridgefielders who came to my small store in Cross River, N.Y.,” Konchalski said. “People were looking for good, clean food that had no chemicals, preservatives, or bad fats.”
The store comprises a natural food market, juice bar, café, and deli. All of the grocery items are free of colors, dyes, fillers, corn syrup — really “anything that’s detrimental to your health,” Konchalski said.
The 100-percent organic juice bar, similarly, does not use colors, dyes, or powders in its juice blends; each drink is made with only fruits and vegetables. Customers can pick up certified organic meals to-go, made-from-scratch soups, veggie burgers, and more at the café, and all the meats and produce are certified organic, as well.
In addition to having access to a breadth of feel-good foods and supplements, customers also benefit from the staff’s nutritional expertise. Konchalski, Executive Chef, Liz Gagnon, and Holistic Health Counselor, Dre Dretzin each have industry knowledge that spans more than 30 years.
“We do extensive research on all the products we bring into the store; I vet and handpick only the best products to put on the shelves,” Konchalski said. “Dre has a binder of lab assays from each vitamin company we use, and those representatives come in and educate us so we can further educate our customers.”
Visitors can find a list of resource books in the vitamin department with a directory of nutritionists, health specialists, and functional medicine doctors for their reference. The latter focuses on creating individualized therapies tailored to treat underlying causes of illness.
The educated staff listens to each customer’s health goals and challenges to identify a personalized approach that will support their optimal health. There are plenty of products for those with specific dietary needs, including wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, raw, kosher, and other restrictions.
“If someone comes in with a stomach issue and is looking for a certain type of food, Chef Liz can help them; if they need supplements, Dre and I are there to help,” Konchalski said. “We’re a resource center for our community.”
