Bethel-based Hollandia Nurseries, founded more than 55 years ago by the Reelick family, offers one-stop shopping for holiday gifts and home decor.

Whether you’re shopping for the home gardener on your holiday gift list, hunting for the perfect Christmas tree, or looking for a nearby holiday-themed outing, family-owned and operated Hollandia Nurseries, with two locations — including a garden center/nursery as well as a separate well-stocked gift shop — in Bethel, could be your one-stop holiday resource.
Founded more than 55 years ago by the Reelick family (Eugene Reelick is the owner, his parents, Hans and Sally, founded the business, and his two sons, Peter and Hans, Jr., work when their school schedules allow), Hollandia Nurseries offers a comprehensive selection of sophisticated holiday gift and decor items, as well as an unforgettable holiday shopping experience.
Ornaments (i.e., giant, statement-making rustic bells and elegant icicles), tall glass votives, pillows, pre-made bows, nutcrackers, snow globes, and stuffed bears outfitted in vintage skiing attire share the shop’s space with tabletop topiaries, holiday-themed dishware (such as the perfect “cookies for Santa” plate), decorative sleds, handmade wreaths, poinsettias, and spools of festive ribbon. Thinking ahead to spring and summer, a comprehensive selection of luxury outdoor furniture, Weber grills, masonry, angel statuary, gazing bowls, birdhouses (don’t forget the birdseed!), hard goods, and lawn torches are also available.
Hollandia’s staff can also create a custom gift basket that, as Reelick says, “keeps on giving,” and could include a cyclamen, fern, spider plant or orchid (one of the store’s customers has maintained one for more than five years, he notes), as well as add-on items, such as locally-made jams, jellies, salsa, and honey, and some of the store’s beautiful ornaments, for example.
Reelick and his staff also want shoppers to enjoy a holiday experience when they visit: “Our staff works incredibly hard to make our gift shop a magical holiday shopping venue,” Reelick says, “complete with beautiful themed vignettes, a children’s theater (where kids can watch A Charlie Brown Christmas or Polar Express on the large screen while Mom and Dad shop), a mancave, complete with a leather sofa, TV screen for game-watching, and hot apple cider, weekend visits from Santa, and on Dec. 21, horse and carriage rides (weather permitting).”
Beginning on Dec. 5, Hollandia will celebrate the “12 Days of Christmas,” with sales on certain items — such as artificial trees, garland, rope, and poinsettias, or gift certificates — for each of the 12 days. “We want to provide a one-stop shopping destination where the whole family can come, do some holiday shopping, and have an experience they will always remember,” Reelick says.
