Press building sold; staff moves upstairs

The Ridgefield Press building at 16 Bailey Avenue has been sold to Vanacker Partners, LLC, a new entity with a Ridgefield location.

The news and advertising staff of The Press will remain in the building, occupying the second floor.

Following renovations, Vanacker has plans for a fitness studio on the ground floor. Sander Vanacker of Ridgefield is the principal in the planned fitness business.

The Press has occupied the building for some 80 years, moving there under the ownership of Karl and John Nash from the ground floor of the Masonic building on Main Street (next to town hall). The Bailey Avenue building then was a one-story brick building that housed a printing press and offices for the Ridgefield Press and Wilton Bulletin, doing business as Acorn Press, Inc. until its merger with Hersam Publishing in 1997.

A second floor was added in 1978 in the Continental style of architecture.
