First Team

Player of the Year 

Taylor Markley 

Woodstock Academy, Junior 

Stats: First-place finisher in every event at the State Open on way to being named all-around champion with 38.775 points. Scored 9.8 on vault, 9.750 in bars, 9.650 in beam, and 9.575 in floor to sweep, something she had also accomplished at the Class M meet. At the New England meet, Markley was second all around at 38.155. She took second in vault 9.85, bars 9.75 and floor 9.5. 

Honors: First-team All-New England. First team All-State. First Team All-ECC. 

Off the mat: Honor roll student. Member of Student Council. Coach at Deary’s Gymnastics. 


Kaitlyn Abbey 

East Lyme, Senior 

Stats: Posted third best all-around score of 35.82 on average, second on bars 9.1 and second on floor 9.3. Tied for sixth on uneven bars 9.275 at New England meet. Fifth on bars with 9.125 and tied for sixth in floor exercise with 9.0 at State Open. Placed second in all around (36.35), bars (9.2), and beam (9.0) at ECC championships. 

Honors: Three-time All-State selection. Three-Time All-ECC. Member of the National high school team. 

Off the mat: Competes and volunteers at ABC Gymnastics. 

Up next: Will attend Central Connecticut State University. 


Olivia Aleman 

Woodstock Academy, Freshman 

Stats: Aleman’s 36.50 in all around helped team to Class M championship. She was third all around 36.375 and third in floor exercise with 9.20 at State Open. Aleman tied for fifth in vault with 9.475 and floor exercise with 9.375 at New England meet. Helped team win ECC championship for the 12th time in a row with a 9.1 vault, 9.05 bars, 9.55 floor and 36.0 all around. 

Honors: ECC Scholar Athlete. ECC Sportsmanship Award winner. First team All-State. First team All-ECC. 

Off the mat: High honor student. Member of National Honor Society. Student Council member. 


Brooke Anderson 

Daniel Hand, Freshman 

Stats:  Posted a score of 9.325 in the vault when Hand won Class S. She had a meet-best score of 9.3 in the vault and was runner-up in all around (36.65) when the Tigers captured the SCC title. She scored a team-best 9.3 in vault when Hand placed second with a school record 143.225 at the New England championship. Averaged 35.00 in all around for the season. 

Honors: All American in vault, bars, beam, all around. First team All-State. All-SCC. 

Off the mat: Academic All American. High honor roll student. Plays in school orchestra. 


Lindsay Capobianco 

St. Joseph, Senior 

Stats:Scored 9.0 on vault, 9.3 on balance beam, 9.3 in floor exercise and 8.750 on uneven bars at the New England championships. Second at FCIACs in all around with a score of 36.45. Posted a 34.90 all around when St. Joseph placed second in Class S. Capobianco was fourth at State Open on beam with 9.150. Her 36.30 in all around was second best on average. School record holder on beam and floor exercise. Totaled 1219.275 points over her career. 

Honors:  First team All-State all four years. All-American as senior. FCIAC winter scholar athlete. 

Off the mat: National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Saint Anselm College Book Award winner. Special Olympics volunteer. 

Up next: Will attend Sacred Heart University. 


Morgan Flickinger 

Daniel Hand, Freshman 

Stats:Led Hand to SCC and Class S championships. Fourth all around with a score of 36.025 at the State Open. Most Outstanding performer at the league meet, where she placed first in balance beam with 9.2 and floor exercise with 9.1 while winning all around at 36.15. Flickinger was the leading point earner for the Tigers at states with a 9.35 in the uneven bars, 9.325 on beam and 9.1 in the floor exercise. Averaged 35.62 in all around during regular season. Tied for fifth on uneven bars with 9.275 at New England meet. 

Honors: All American in all around. First team All-State. All-SCC first team. 

Off the mat: Academic All American. 


Julianna Gagliardi 

Haddam-Killingworth, Junior 

Stats: Gagliardi led the way for H-K in Class M where she placed third in vault (9.175) fourth in floor exercise (9.0) and fifth on balance beam (8.8). At the State Open, Gagliardi tied for third in vault (9.3) and was fifth on floor (9.075). She had a season average of 35.48 in all around. 

Honors:  First team All-State. Three-time New Haven Register all-area selection. All-Shoreline Conference. 

Off the mat: High honor roll student, volunteers for Special Olympics gymnastics. Coaches younger athletes at Flip-Flop Gymnastics. 


Mia Guster 

Staples, Junior 

Stats: Class L vault champion at 9.6 and runner-up at the State Open with a 9.525. Tied for second in floor exercise with 9.250 and was fifth in floor exercise with 9.250 and balance beam with 9.0 at Opens. At FCIACs, Placed second in floor with 9.20 and third on vault with 9.3. She had an 8.85 on floor at states. 

Honors: All American on beam and floor. Elite All American on vault. New England, State Open qualifier. First team All-State. First team All-FCIAC. 

Off the mat: German National Honor Society. 


Lauren Heller 

Stamford, Senior 

Stats: Tied for fourth at New England’s on uneven bars with a 9.45. Placed third on bars at 9.4 at the State Open. Heller was second in bars with 9.5 and fifth all around with 34.8 at FCIACs. 

Honors: Three-time first team All-State. All-FCIAC. 

Off the mat: Member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. Volunteers for the Fish Church Creative Learning Center. Writer and Editor for Round Top, school paper. 

Up next: Will attend college and hopes to compete in gymnastics. 


Emma Johnson 

Fairfield Warde, Junior 

Stats: Johnson was New England's best on the balance beam at 9.8. She placed sixth all around with 37.225 with a third place in floor exercise with 9.45 and a sixth-place tie on vault with 9.475. Johnson took second on uneven bars with 9.45, beam with 9.550 and tied for second on floor with 9.250 to finish second all around with 37.35 at State Open. She was repeat all-around champion at the FCIAC meet. 

Honors: All-New England. All-State. All-FCIAC. 


Jordyn Murray 

Ellis Tech, Freshman 

Stats: Murray was third all around with a score of 38.075 at New England’s. She tied for third on uneven bars with 9.5 and balance beam 9.65. Murray was fourth in vault with 9.675. At States Opens, she took fifth on vault with 9.225 and 10th on beam with 9.725. Posted personal best scores of 9.7 on vault, 9.5 on bars, 9.65 on beam, 9.225 on floor and 38.075 all around.

Honors: First team All-New England. First team All-State. 

Off the mat: Ranks first scholastically out of 189 students in class of 2025. S.A.L.T member. Volunteers at food shelter in Willimantic. Works with school Dean of Students. Class of 2025 vice president. 


Julianna Rizzitelli 

St. Joseph, Sophomore 

Stats: Rizzitelli had a 9.25 on vault, 8.9 on beam, 9.0 on floor and 8.9 on bars at the New England meet. First team CHSCA All-State in 2021, she scored a 9.05 in the vault, 8.75 on the beam and 8.75 on the floor when the Cadets were runners-up in Class S. Rizzitelli was third all around with a 36.35 at the league meet where she placed second on balance beam with 9.15. 

Honors: First team All-State, first team All-FCIAC. 

Off the mat: Presidential Honor Roll every quarter. Multiple writing awards.
