Gilchrist hits career milestone with SWS girls hockey co-op

Meadow Gilchrist has been with the Stamford/Westhill/Staples co-op through plenty of ups and downs during the past four seasons.

This year, the “wild ride” as she described it, has been on a steady climb.

Gilchrist reached a career milestone when she scored the 100th and 101st goals of her SWS career during a 7-0 shutout of SCC contender Guilford Wednesday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Coach Jon Fay, who called Gilchrist the team’s “heart and soul on the ice” earlier this season, said Gilchrist’s achievement has been the result of “four years of hard work.”

“She’s been steady in tough times and she’s steady now here in some better times,” Fay said. “She’s been a solid player throughout and we’re thrilled to see it pay off. It’s a great milestone crossing over the 100-goal mark.”

“I am beyond proud and honored to have scored my 100th goal playing for SWS,” Glichrist said. “It’s been a wild ride the last four years but this was a goal of mine and I am so very proud of this accomplishment. My hard work and determination got me to where I am today as well as impeccable coaching.”

Gilchrist’s 100th goal came after a pass from linemate Annie Forker and put SWS up 5-0 late in the second period, and she added her 101st in the third, weaving around several defenders to score unassisted.

The line of Gilchrist (2 goals, 1 assist), Forker (3 goals, 2 assists) and Alyssa Gioia (1 goal, 1 assist) combined for six goals against Guilford.

Gilchrist has 27 goals and 22 assists this season, and is a senior captain for a team which is 16-1-1, more than doubling its win total of 15 from the previous three seasons combined.

“It’s been very much a team effort and I think she’s appreciative that she’s got a solid team with her on this journey,” Fay said.; @dstewartsports
