Windsor’s All-State basketball standout Tyler Betsey to transfer to St. Thomas More

Windsor sophomore guard Tyler Betsey announced on his Twitter feed Friday that he will be transferring to St. Thomas More, a prep school out of Uncasville, for the 2022-23 school year.

“Next academic school year I will be attending St Thomas More!” Betsey tweeted. Also on the tweet was the Latin phrase “per aspera ad astra” which means “through hardships to the stars.”

The 6-foot-6 Betsey averaged 23 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game for the Warriors, leading them to a berth in both the CCC and Division I state tournament semifinals. Betsey was a member of the GameTimeCT all-state team.

Windsor coach Ken Smith said he knew Betsey had been visiting prep schools and said he had gotten a call from St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn of their interest in Betsey.

But Smith didn’t find out about Betsey’s decision until he saw the tweet on Friday.

“He told me (a few weeks ago) that he wasn’t going anywhere,” Smith said. “If (kids) feel like it is the best thing for them and their family, more power to them.”

According to Betsey’s Twitter feed, he has received scholarship offers from Seton Hall and Iona.

Betsey was one of four sophomores to start for Windsor this season. The Warriors finished 20-5 and ranked sixth in the final GameTimeCT poll.; @nhrJoeMorelli
