For those who have missed attending Redding’s annual Frog Frolic the past two years due to Covid cancellations, the Mark Twain Library announced that it will be holding, Storybook Stomp, a new family event on July 10.

From noon to 4 p.m. attendees can enjoy live music, food and, as the library’s staff promises, plenty of “much-needed family fun.” The Storybook Stomp will be held at the Redding Community Center on Lonetown Road.

While the Storybook Stomp won’t be quite the same as the library’s traditional Frog Frolic, which also offered a variety of crafts and games, the event offers a chance for people to gather together after the long months of pandemic isolation.

“An occasion for families in our community to get together for fun is so overdue,” Mark Twain Library board member Eric Rubury said. “We have really missed being able to host the Frog Frolic for the last two years and are delighted to provide something now that the guidelines allow us to gather in person.”

While the event is outdoors, the Mark Twain Library encourages attendees to adhere to the CDC’s social distancing guidelines and asks that folks wear their masks.

The free event will be hosted by Leif Smith, who many might recall from his previous involvement at the library’s Frog Frolic as the Mad Hatter. From noon to 3 p.m., Amy Cabot, Traci Greenberg and Rob Gemza will perform for attendees. During the final hour country band North County will take over the stage and close out the event.

Those who attend the Storybook Stomp are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for lawn seating. Guests can pack their own picnic basket or purchase food on site from the food tent, which will offer snacks, ice cream and drinks. Bailey’s Backyard will also have its pizza truck available at the Redding Community Center.

Parents looking for something fresh to read with their children can also pick up a book or two from the second hand children’s books tent at the Storybook Stomp.
