Name: Emile Buzaid Jr.

Party: Republican

Race: 138th House District

He hadn’t planned on vying for Connecticut’s 138th House District seat — but when the Republican Town Committee approached him about it, Emile Buzaid Jr. said he felt it his duty to run.

“I love this area, and I would certainly love to contribute. I would like to see it safe and I would like to see it prosper,” said the lifelong Danbury resident and current at-large city councilman.

Buzaid said two of his top legislative priorities would be public safety and small business — the latter of which he knows much about as a small business owner in Danbury for 50 years.

“Small business is critical,” he said. “It’s the backbone of our economy, and right now there are so many being challenged (due to pandemic). Regulations and tax incentives are important.”

Buzaid said he would also focus on promoting public safety and encouraging people to continue serving on police forces.

“I support all our first responders — probably now more than ever. They’re very valuable folks,” he said.
