On May 24, three high school students from Fairfield and Westchester counties will experience the joy of live theatre in a whole new way — as playwrights. Jeison Lenis Lopez of Stamford, Conn., Zaida Rio Polanco of White Plains, N.Y., and Naomi Young of Mamaroneck, N.Y. were named winners of The Palace Theatre’s 2020 Ernie DiMattia Emerging Young Artist Awards for their writing of an original one-act play. All three will witness their visions come to life with a virtual reading by professional actors as part of The Palace fundraiser.
Lopez, a junior at Stamford High School, was selected for his play, “Renaissance.” Each of the winning students was awarded $300. In addition, The Palace has recognized three runners-up — Samantha Vertucci of Sandy Hook, Conn., Charlie Johnson Riverside, Conn. and Serena Shifrin of Mount Kisco, N.Y.
