The Ridgefield Police Department is participating in the “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” initiative this month to crackdown on distracted driving.

The Ridgefield Police Department will have extra patrols on certain days, specifically looking for cell phone and texting violations.

Under Connecticut’s cell phone and texting law, fines range from $150 for a first offense, $300 for a second offense, and $500 for each subsequent offense.

The Ridgefield Police Department, through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, received funds to pay for this enforcement initiative.
