New Asian restaurant Maru offers flavors of many nations

Owners of the new pan-Asian restaurant and bar in the Yankee Ridge plaza named “Maru” — Japanese for “circle” — hope you’ll come circling back for more.

Husband and wife Angel and Ming Lin bought the business from Junmai, which was previously at that location off Prospect Street behind Main Street. It’s their second restaurant. They also have one in Lake Mohegan, N.Y.

“I said, ‘Let’s do it here. I can help you if you do it here,’” said cousin Nicole Lin, who lives in Norwalk. She works in accounting by day and helps manage the new restaurant on weekends.

After testing out restaurants in area towns, they decided to open up in Ridgefield.

“We said, I think we can do something good here.”

The restaurant was packed beyond expectations when they opened last month.

“The first day was crazy,” said Nicole Lin. “You had to wait an hour and a half for a table!”

The big menu offers plenty of options, and so far the sambal sauce, Thai curry and mango sauce have been customer favorites, she said. “So far nobody complains.”

One of Ming Lin’s specialties, green tea fried rice, is also popular, she said.

The restaurant also has a sushi bar where you can watch your meal being prepared.

“If you’re a sushi lover, it’s heaven here,” she said.

Maru offers free local delivery and is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
