Green Spot: Matches are earth-friendly

FI-GREENSPOTSo, you are getting ready for a dinner party. You are starting the grill, setting the table and lighting the candles, among other things. Who would think that deciding to use matches to light your grill and your candles could impact our environment!

Something so simple like using matches can make a difference.

Most people would never even think about the lighter and it being a problem. For the most part, lighters are now made of plastic and are filled with butane fuel.

When you discard your disposable lighter the petroleum-based plastic and fuel goes into our soil and water. Not good. Each year it is estimated that one to two billion end up in our dumps.

So why not think about changing out those plastic lighters and start only using cardboard matches, because most of them are even made from recycled paper.

See you all next week, and remember it’s fun and easy to be green!
