Ridgefield is host for Babe Ruth 14U state tourney

The Ridgefield Babe Ruth program will be the host for the Connecticut Babe Ruth 14-under state tournament, which begins tomorrow and concludes next Tuesday.

The eight-team field includes seven recently crowned district champs and Ridgefield, which qualified as the host team.

The double-elimination tournament starts Wednesday with a pair of games, including a contest between Ridgefield and Simsbury, the District 8 champion, at 5:30 at Ciuccoli Field.

There are also two games scheduled for Thursday and Friday (3 and 5:30), two more on Saturday (9 and 11:30), and four on Sunday (9, 11:30, 2 and 4:30).

The losers’ bracket final is scheduled for Monday at 5:30, and the first championship game is set for Tuesday at 3. If the losers’ bracket champion wins the first finals game, there will be a second contest to determine the state champion on Tuesday at 5:30.

All games will take place at Ciuccoli Field.

In addition to Ridgefield and Simsbury, other participating teams are Norwalk, Stamford, Milford, New Haven, Pomperaug, and Waterford.

The state champion will advance to the Babe Ruth regionals.
