RHS track teams third at FCIACs; Gravitte sets state javelin record

On a day in which the Ridgefield High girls and boys track outdoor track teams both finished third at the conference championships, Ellie Gravitte’s record-setting victory in the javelin provided the biggest highlight.

Gravitte’s javelin toss of 152 feet, seven inches not only smashed the FCIAC record but also set a new state record. Her previous career-best was 144’1″.

Gravitte also won the shot put (36’0″) and was third in the discus to contribute 26 of the RHS girls team’s 91 points.

Trevor Hopper’s first-place finish in the 3,200-meter race helped the RHS boys team place third with 90 points. Hopper’s winning time was 9:32.91.

Staples won both the girls (100.5 points) and boys (128 points) titles.
