Boys hockey: Ridgefield downs Trinity in FCIACs

Vin Rella scored a hat trick to lead the Ridgefield High boys hockey team past Trinity Catholic, 5-2, in an FCIAC quarterfinal game Saturday night at Terry Conners Rink in Stamford.

The fourth-seeded Tigers (16-5) will now meet top-seed Darien in the semifinals on Wednesday night at 7:30 at Terry Conners Rink.

Ridgefield had just a 2-1 lead over fifth-seed Trinity going into the final period. Alex Rowella scored to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead, and after Trinity again pulled within one, Geoff Schneider answered with a goal to make it 4-2 with just over two minutes left.

Rella then completed his hat trick with an empty net goal.
