Relay wins lead RHS track teams at State Open meets

Relay victories helped the Ridgefield High boys and girls indoor track and field teams earn top-10 finishes at the State Open meet Tuesday in New Haven.

The RHS girls finished fifth with 24.33 points, and the RHS boys were eighth with 14 points.

The RHS girls got a first-place finish from the sprint medley relay team of Brooklyn MacKenzie, Amanda Berta, Molly Weeks and Hannah Fleming in a time of 4:19.41.

Fleming, Laura Hergenrother, Weeks and Sarah Guillaume were third in the 4×800-meter relay in 9:33.02.

Ridgefield also picked up points in two individual events. Guillaume placed third in the 3,200 (11:15.93), and Rachel Moroknek tied for fourth in the pole vault (10’0″).

The RHS boys received a first-place finish from Thomas Guillaume, McCall Keller, Will Bordash and Graeme Hewett in the 4×800 relay (8:09.30).

The Tigers’ remaining four points came from Trevor Hopper, who was fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 9:35.20.

Notes: The top-six finishers in each event qualified for the upcoming New England regional championships.

Darien won the State Open girls team title with 66.33 points. Bloomfield was first in the State Open boys championship with 61 points.
